To the editor:

The following is a letter I sent to Congressman Bergman on August 23. I have yet to receive a response. Perhaps if it is published in the Gazette he will answer these questions.

Why, Congressman Bergman, why?

I want to know why:

Why do you continue to let a convicted felon, an adjudicated sexual abuser, a serial liar, an aging narcissist, a racist, a person who blatantly ignores the Constitution he swore an oath to preserve and protect, a hustler — why do you allow Donald Trump to be your guiding star?

Why do you seem to cower in fear of this evil, petty man?

Why do you just stand back and stand by while this man destroys the very foundations of our republic?

Why do you just stand back and stand by while this man orders masked, unidentifiable officers to grab people off the street who broke no other law than being in our country without papers?

Why do you just stand back and stand by while he sends otherwise law-abiding residents to concentration centers with illegal living conditions?

There is so much more: Medicaid; national parks and public lands; Whitewashing our history; climate change, USAID; DEI; transgender protections; academic independence; vaccines and on and on and on.

Why do you not have the courage and integrity to meet with your constituents in open forums?

Why do you, yourself, ignore your sacred oath to defend and protect our Constitution; an oath you have taken so many times?

Why do you just stand back and stand by when you and your fellow Republican colleagues in Congress could stop the evil this man is doing to America?

Why do you not have the dignity and resolve to fight the authoritarianism that is dropping like a heavy, dark cloud over our nation?

Why do you just stand back and stand by?

Why do you not feel shame?

WHY?

History will long note what you and the Republican Congress do in this crisis. What will history say of you?

These are serious questions General. Please give me serious answers, not platitudes. I will send you this letter each week if need be. I will do my best to share our correspondence via social and traditional media, all across the First District.
