IRON RIVER — Even though time is running out, a new business in Iron River may have just what you’re looking for on your last-minute Christmas List. CharYooperie offers premium Upper Peninsula themed charcuterie gift boxes, that the owner says are “designed to help people truly get a taste of the Upper Peninsula.”
CharYooperie owner Kaylee Hernandez opened the business earlier this month and says her “small idea,” has been embraced by the community “beyond anything I expected.”
Hernandez opened the business on Dec. 6 and in just two weeks, the online business attracted 790 followers and generated more than 289,000 online views, and fulfilled 87 orders, driven largely by community support and word of mouth.
Hernandez calls her fledgling business a one-woman operation. “I personally curate, assemble, wrap, and ship every box by hand right here in Iron River,” she said.
If people find the business entertaining, that makes perfect sense. “Outside of the business, I work as a commercial model and actor, a promotions specialist, and a professional pianist.” She said CharYooperie was created to combine her love of food, creativity, and storytelling while celebrating the identity, flavors, and pride of the Upper Peninsula.
Each CharYooperie box is intentionally designed as a premium experience — not just a gift. Every box features carefully selected Upper Peninsula products and gift-ready packaging, including:
• GT’s Bees Honey
• Keweenaw Kitchen Jam
• Sayklly’s Chocolates
• Trenary Toast
• A custom engraved Upper Peninsula bamboo cutting board
• Additional specialty items, premium packaging, and a handwritten note
CharYooperie boxes are often purchased as premium closing gifts, thank-you gifts, birthday gifts, holiday gifts, “thinking of you” gifts, and just-because surprises, as well as for people who have moved away and miss the Upper Peninsula and want to reconnect with home through food.
So far, CharYooperie boxes have shipped all across the United States — including California, Massachusetts, Florida, Idaho, and Texas — and even overseas to Korea for a military address, helping Yoopers everywhere feel connected to home.
Hernandez customers have found creative use of her products. “The response from the community has been overwhelming, especially from realtors, local businesses, and residents looking for meaningful, locally rooted gifts. Every box is hand-packed in Iron River, with a strong emphasis on supporting local makers and delivering a high-quality, Yooper-themed experience.
