Recycling presentation in Hancock
HANCOCK — “Engineering Value from Waste: Glass, Tires, and Landfill Mining” is the title of a presentation offered by the Copper Country Recycling Initiative (CCRI) at 7 p.m. Jan. 20, at the Orpheum Theater in Hancock. Two Michigan Technological University researchers will share insights into their work valuing recycled and discarded materials.
Zhanping You, a professor in Tech’s Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering, will discuss his research developing asphalt materials for road paving using waste tires and recycled glass. Professor Jonathan Robins, from the MTU Department of Social Sciences, will share research on landfill mining and the recovery of valuable materials from landfills, supported by the Department of Energy.
The presentation is part of CCRI’s ongoing efforts to educate the community about innovative and locally relevant approaches to materials management.
