LANSING — Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced appointments to university boards and Michigan commissions Wednesday. The announcement included one appointment to the Michigan Technological University Board of Trustees.
Christine Roberts, from Traverse City, will be appointed to the BOT in a term that begins January 2027 and expires after at the end of 2034. Roberts will succeed BOT member Jeffery Littmann, whose term expires December 31, 2026.
According to a press release from Whitmer’s office, Roberts serves as a member on the executive boards of Impact100 Traverse City, a non-profit which assists in local grants for community projects, as well as Newton’s Road, which supports STEM-related learning for Traverse City youth.
According to the alumni page on MTU’s website, Roberts received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1991. She went on to work for Motorola, Inc. for 20 years. Roberts received her Master’s of Business Administration in International Business in 2000 from DePaul University.
Roberts has been recognized by MTU for her support of girls in STEM-related fields, as well as her community building efforts when she was inducted into the Michigan Tech Presidential Council of Alumnae (PCA) in 2009.
The appointment was one of dozens of appointments made to Michigan boards and commissions Wednesday. In addition to Roberts, Robin Chosa, of Baraga, was reappointed to the Michigan Board of Counseling. Chosa is the small business navigator tribal liaison at Michigan Technological University. Chosa holds an associate of applied science in business from Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College and a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Michigan Tech. He was first appointed to the Board of Counseling in 2022. His reappointment is for a term commencing July 1, 2026, and expiring June 30, 2030.
Other appoint involving people from the U.P. include Alexander Kofsky of Marquette to the Rural Development Fund Board, Kristopher Bowman of Gulliver to the Michigan Propane Commission and Mark Bomberg of Gladstone to the Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging.
These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
