CHASSELL — Two Chassell recreational facilities received upgrades thanks to a local Scout Troop. According to a press release, more than 440 hours of work were dedicated to the improvements of Misslitz Baseball Field and the Chassell Bark Park.
As part of his Eagle Scout project, Evan Massaway led 42 volunteer Scouts in updating Misslitz Field. The Scouts replaced wood on the bleachers, trimmed the outfield edge and painted the dugouts. They also removed the batting cages so they could be replaced.
“These improvements, along with infield leveling, will greatly improve the quality of the field,” Massaway said. “The benches and dugout will last longer, a new batting cage can be put in place of the old one, and the infield [is] much more playable.”
The release indicated Chassell’s Recreation Committee anticipated the final updates, including capping the fence and improving the make-up of the field, which will be completed this spring.
As part of his Eagle Scout project at the Bark Park, Max Massaway and 26 volunteers cleared overgrown brush and added several features to the area.
“Our goal was to make the space more enjoyable and accessible for both dogs and their owners,” Max explained.
A deck and gazebo gives dog owners a comfortable place from which they can supervise their canine companions. They also installed a small dog training course, including agility poles and two hurdles.
“This project helped bring new life to the park and created a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming space for the community,” he said.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit Misslitz Field and the Bark Park to see the Scouts’ work and enjoy Chassell’s recreational features.
