• Hancock Pitch In For Parks, 4 – 6 p.m. The City of Hancock Parks cleanup is a community event that is designed to bring neighbors together to spruce up city parks for summer. Choose your park and join in the fun from 4 – 6 pm. Call City Hall at 906-482-2720 to choose your park. Celebrate afterwards with hot dogs, chips, water, and pop at the City of Hancock Fire Department at 6 p.m City Hall will Close for the day at 3:30 p.m. to allow staff to participate in

• LOVE INC Banquet Fundraiser, 6 p.m. Houghton Baptist Church, 2801 W Sharon Ave, Houghton. Houghton Baptist Church will host the LOVE INC banquet fundraiser. May 10

• Pie Social/Used Book Sale. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. First United Methodist Church, 401 Quincy St, Hancock. The used book sale and pie social features a wide range of well-organized books suitable for all ages and all interests, including more than 150 Young Adult (YA) books and a selection of Disney videotapes. Arrive early for the best selection, and stay for a delicious treat, with more than two dozen varieties of pie.

• The SuperiorLand Pet Partners will hold a Handler Class to get involved in local pet therapy from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: $40

• The Copper Country League of Women Voters will hold its annual meeting Saturday, May 10, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the The Skyline Commons, formerly known as the Jutila Center in the old hospital chapel, 200 Michigan St., in Hancock.

May 11

• Wilderness Walk, 3 p.m. at Paavola Wetlands Nature Area – Off No. 9 Road in Paavola Location. The Wilderness Walks are opportunities to connect with God and each other in an outdoor natural setting. Each walk has a leader who will guide the walk and stop along the way for readings and reflection. The walks are appropriate for all ages including families and children. The nature area contains miles of hiking trails suitable for visitors of all accessibility. Everyone is welcome, no religious affiliation is necessary.

May 14

The Copper Country Recycling Initiative will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 14th, from 4-5:15 pm at the Portage Lake District Library, West End Conference Room.  All are welcome to attend.

May 17

• Family Fun Fair & Resource Fair. Community members are invited to join Copper Shores Community Health Foundation and Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds at the Family Fun Fair and Resource Fair, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Calumet Colosseum. This event is free to attend and open to the public. Community members have the opportunity to connect with local nonprofits, find valuable community resources and enjoy family friendly fun with bounce houses, face painting, raffle prizes and more.
