May 9

• LOVE INC Banquet Fundraiser, 6 p.m. Houghton Baptist Church, 2801 W Sharon Ave, Houghton. Houghton Baptist Church will host the LOVE INC banquet fundraiser. • Benefit for Carissa and Megan, 6 p.m. the Extra Event Center, 22 S Main St, L’Anse. Carisa Lafernier and Megan Corey recently experienced an unimaginable loss–their home, belongings, and their beloved two dogs — in a house fire. This night of music, raffles, and good company will raise funds to help them. Live music will be provided by Daryn Reece & Anthony Lindsey. Freewill donations will be accepted at the door, and there will be raffles and prize giveaways. Bring your own beverages – soda and snacks for purchase. Feel free to bring a dish to pass.

May 10

• Anderson/Durocher Benefit Breakfast, 7 -11 a.m. Stanton Township Fire Hall, 16841 Fire Hall Rd. The Stanton Township Volunteer Fire Department will host a benefit breakfast. Enjoy pancakes, French toast, sausage, juice and coffee for $10 for adults, and $5 for children. Tickets will be available at the door. A 50-50 raffle will be held. Proceeds will support the Anderson and Durocher families.

• Pie Social/Used Book Sale. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. First United Methodist Church, 401 Quincy St, Hancock. The used book sale and pie social features a wide range of well-organized books suitable for all ages and all interests, including more than 150 Young Adult (YA) books and a selection of Disney videotapes. Arrive early for the best selection, and stay for a delicious treat, with more than two dozen varieties of pie.

• Joe Kirkish Photo Exhibit/Sale 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Calumet Art Center, 57055 5th St, Calumet, MI 49913, USA

• The SuperiorLand Pet Partners will hold a Handler Class to get involved in local pet therapy. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: $40. If you are interested in volunteering with your friendly dog, cat, horse, or other friendly animal, please call Patty Cornish at 906-485-5815

• Hancock Spring Clean-up, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Spring Clean-up begins. Discarded household items may be dropped off from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the DPW Garage at 1601 Tomasi Drive. Citywide curbside pickup of leaf bags and bundled tree branches 4′ or less in length will take place from May 12 – June 6.

May 14

• The Copper Country Recycling Initiative will hold its monthly meeting on from 4 – 5:15 p.m.at the Portage Lake District Library, West End Conference Room.  All are welcome to attend.

May 17

• Family Fun Fair & Resource Fair. Community members are invited to join Copper Shores Community Health Foundation and Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds at the Family Fun Fair and Resource Fair from noon to 3 p.m.at the Calumet Colosseum. This event is free to attend and open to the public. Community members have the opportunity to connect with local nonprofits, find valuable community resources and enjoy family friendly fun with bounce houses, face painting, raffle prizes and more.

• Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds monthly meeting, 6:30 p.m at Portage Lake District Library Meeting Room, Houghton.
