Events and opportunities
June 7
• Farm on the Town, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sunflower Books and Coffee downtown Hancock. There will be live farm animals, a Young Farm Hands activity, the opportunity to plant a flower, a photo booth space, a maple syrup and honey bee display, and more. Farm on the Town is free to all, and open to all ages.
• Pancake Breakfast 8 a.m. to noon 527 Hancock Street, Hancock. Little Brother Friends of the Elderly will host a Pancake Breakfast, with bake sale & raffle prizes. Adults $8, 7 and under free. Proceeds will support medical transportation program.
• Annual ATV ride for Omega House, rain or shine. Registration 9 – 11 a.m. at the Maple Leaf, Lake Linden (Trailer parking available). Riders will depart from the Maple Leaf at 11 a.m. with fun stops at the Loading Zone, Partanens. Monte Carlo and Luigi’s. Riders will return to the Maple Leaf by 6 p.m.. for prize drawings. $20 entry fee per rider with all proceeds to benefit Omega House.
June 8
• Rice Lake Fishing Derby, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmen’s Association, 51610, Rice Lake Rd, Lake Linden. This is a family event. The entry fee is $5 for adults, $3 for juniors and $1 for children. Registration will be open at the clubhouse on Rice Lake Saturday evening between 6 – 8 p.m. and Sunday between 7 a.m. – 1 p.m.
June 9
• Your Health, Your Power: A Community Talk on Breast and Colon Cancer, 5:30 p.m. Memorial Union Building, MTU. Aspirus Keweenaw presents “Your Health, Your Power: A Community Talk on Breast and Colon Cancer.”
June 12
• “Better Together” will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock. The speaker will be Shirley Lamppa, and her topic is “things aren’t always what they seem.” Don’t miss hearing about how God has worked in her life. A light brunch will be served, and there is a suggested donation of $10. All proceeds over the cost of the brunch will be donated to local charities. All area women are cordially invited to attend. ‘How Sundials Helped Settle the American Frontier,’ by Mark Montgomery, 7 p.m. Eagle Harbor Community Center. Learn how William Burt came to invent the sun compass, used to further westward expansion in the U.S., as well as how this surveying instrument relates directly to U. P. history. Suggested donation: $5/person, part of Keweenaw County Historical Society’s “Adventures in History.”
