Events and Opportunities
August 21
• The Calumet Keweenaw Sportsmen Club will hold its August membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. at our clubhouse, 5947 Phoenix Farms Road, Phoenix, Michigan. We will begin with a period of social interaction and a meal. Following the meal and general club business, our guest speaker will be our own Tessa Tormoen, Junior Angler Fishing Programming Coordinator. Tessa will be providing us with an overview of our successful fishing events this summer. As always, everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
• Hancock Tori, 2 – 5 p.m. Quincy Green. Today, get a free Keweenaw Thimbleberry Week logo sticker. Participating vendors will be offering thimbleberry-themed goods, foods, and art.
• Chassell Heritage Center Program, 7 p.m. Tonight’s program will feature music on and off the beaten path, with covers and originals by local band Bling Crosby.
August 22
• Neighbor’s Table Community Meal, 5:30 – 7 p.m. Faith Lutheran Church, Calumet. The monthly Neighbor’s Table community meal will be served at Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet. Takeouts are available between 6:30 and 7 p.m.. All are welcome, at no charge.
August 23
* Keweenaw Indivisible is holding a rally at Keweenaw National Historical Park to celebrate the 109th birthday of the National Park Service and to support the protection of all national park units and other public lands. The rally is from 10 a.m. to noon, at the corner of US 41 and Red Jacket Road in Calumet.
August 24
• Maranatha Free Lutheran Church is having a free spaghetti dinner from 2 to 4.30 p.m. A short message and prayer will precede food, drinks, and fellowship. Located 45841 US Highway 41 a mile or two south of Michigan Tech.
August 26
Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds, 6:30 p.m. Portage Lake District Library Meeting Room. Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy MInds is a public group, and we welcome anyone interested in our mission: “to support healthy minds through connection and community.” Our goals are to talk more openly about mental health to reduce stigma, to build a resilient community by educating the public, and to support those at risk for mental health and substance use crises. • Wasted! The story of Food Waste, 6 p.m. Orpheum Theater, Hancock. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. film at 6 p.m. Presented by WUPPDR, CCRI, and Wolfs Head Film. Event is free and snacks provided.
