• Spaghetti Dinner 4-7 p.m. Quincy–Franklin–Hancock Fire Department, 20457 Sunshine Rd. Hancock. Adults pay $12, children pay $6, and under age five eat free.
October 5
• National Life Chain. 2 – 3:30 p.m. Gather in the parking lot of the Copper Country Mall. Each year since 1987 people have gathered nationwide on the first Sunday of October to make a public, prayerful, peaceful stand for life. Sponsored by the Life Outreach Center.
October 6
• Ride Against Abuse, 6 p.m. Calumet Americinn. The 12th annual Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home “Ride Against Abuse”
will begin at the Calumet AmericInn. Bikers should meet at 6:00 for the ride through Calumet, Laurium, Lake Linden, Hubbell and Dollar Bay via M-26 to Hancock and Houghton. The ride will end at Kestner Waterfront Park. Wear purple to mourn victims, celebrate survivors and reaffirm the struggle for a non-violent future. There is no fee to participate; however, donations are welcome.

October 8
• Free Soup Supper. 3-6 p.m. Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 47281 Adventure St, in Atlantic Mine offers a free supper on the second Wednesday of each month. All are invited to enjoy soup, bread, and a piece of fruit. A vegan option is available.
October 9
• Better Together will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church on 400 Ingot Street in Hancock. The speaker will be Carol Jones and her topic will be, “What’s on Your Mind?” Special music will be provided by Stephanie Eshbach Veenstra and Katelyn Eshbach. A brunch will be served and there is suggested donation of $10. All proceeds over the cost of the event will be donated to local charities. Mission United Lutheran Church, 16463 Pelkie Rd., Pelkie, MI. is holding their annual Holly & Harvest Bazaar From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 11. Brunch will be served at 9am and luncheon at 11 a.m. Homemade bakery, jams and jellies, Christmas decor and quality rummage will be offered.

• Surviving the Holidays, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.Bethany Baptist Church, Dollar Bay. When you are grieving a loved one’s death or know someone who is, the holidays can be especially painful. The Surviving the Holidays seminar helps prepare for the upcoming season. There is no cost involved and each participant will receive a Surviving the Holidays booklet. • “A Toast to Big Annie!” at the Calumet Theatre begins with a free screening of “Red Metal: The Copper Country Strike of 1913” from 6:30 to 7:30. p.m. Bar opens at 6 p.m. Limited tickets are available at $65 per person to attend a fundraising reception in the ballroom from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. where you will be welcomed with piano music by Paul Behn, followed by an exclusive talk by author Steve Lehto, appetizers from Miscowaubik, live music by The Jones Brothers and a silent auction.
