• Breakfast Pasty Sale, 7 a.m. The L’Anse American Legion Post will hold a breakfast pasty sale. Pasties cost $7.00, and include eggs, hashbrowns, onions, cheese, and your choice of breakfast sausage or ham. Order in advance by calling 524-7746.

October 23

• Haunted Smelter, Thursday, Friday & Saturday, at the Quincy Smelter 7 – 10:30 p.m. The Quincy Smelter transforms into a ghoulish playground when Michigan Tech’s Visual and Performing Arts Department teams up with the Quincy Mine Hoist Association to present “Haunted Smelter: Descent Into Madness.” Expect spine-tingling sets, live actors, and atmospheric chills in one of the Copper Country’s most storied locations.

• Fall metal drive 3 – 8 p.m. Cliff Bar. The Keweenaw Outdoor Recreation Coalition will hold its fall metal clean-up. The goal is to collect as much dumped metal from parks, preserves, trails, roadsides and beaches as possible. The event will be based at the Cliff Bar, with food from Fitzgerald’s. Let them know you’re coming, and how many people you’re bringing, so Fitzgerald’s knows how much food to prepare. Follow the link.

October 25

• “A Toast to Big Annie!” at the Calumet Theatre begins with a free screening of “Red Metal: The Copper Country Strike of 1913” from 6:30 to 7:30. p.m. Bar opens at 6 p.m. Limited tickets are available at $65 per person to attend a fundraising reception in the ballroom from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. where you will be welcomed with piano music by Paul Behn, followed by an exclusive talk by author Steve Lehto, appetizers from Miscowaubik, live music by The Jones Brothers and a silent auction. Tickets are on sale now at calumettheatre.com or by calling the box office at 906-337-2610.

• Coat the Copper Country. We are collecting clean, new or gently used coats, snowpants, boots, waterproof gloves/mittens, hats and scarves for all ages, especially children (and men). Donations can be dropped off donations at The Salvation Army.

November 4

• The November meeting of the Houghton-Keweenaw Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the Bonfire in Houghton. The business meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by a buffet lunch. The guest

speaker will be Mike Lutz, Executive Director of Omega House. All members are encouraged to attend. Contact person – Steven Karpiak, 482-8455.

November 8

• Fourth annual Hunter’s Ball, 7-11 p.m Range Lounge, South Range. Sponsored by South Range 4th of July committee. Live music by Slick Nickel, $5 cover. 50/50 & gift basket drawing. All proceeds will benefit South Range 4th of July festivities.
