December 9

• Barkell Elementary Christmas Program 9 a.m. The Christmas program will feature Young Fives through fifth grade. If there’s a snow day, the program will be moved to Thursday, Dec. 11.

December 10

• Free Soup Supper – Atlantic Mine. Location: Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 47281 Adventure St. Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic Mine offers a free supper on the second Wednesday of each month. All are invited to enjoy soup, bread, and a piece of fruit. A vegan option is available.

• Gales of November, author presentation, 5:30 p.m. Author John U. Bacon, will discuss his New York Times Best Seller, “The Gales of November: The Untold Story of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” He’ll share insights and stories about the lakes, the ship, the storm, and most importantly, the crew and their families. Books will be for sale on site by North Wind Books.

December 12

• The National Honor Society at Houghton High School will host a blood drive from noon to 3 p.m. at the High School between the High School and Middle School gyms. Those interested in donating should enter through Door 1, or the big glass entrance, located at the front of the school building. Snacks and beverages will be provided for those donating.

December 13

• Wilderness Walk, 3 p.m. Special Advent Celebration. Meet at Calumet Township Park. Walk less than 400 yards to Sarah Green’s barn.

Music offered by Charles Murphy. The Wilderness Walks are opportunities to connect with God and each other in an outdoor natural setting. Each walk has a leader who will guide the walk and stop along the way for readings and reflection. The walks are appropriate for all ages including families and children. Everyone is welcome, no religious affiliation is necessary.

December 20

• KNHP Open House, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Looking for something festive? The Keweenaw National Historical Park’s Calumet Visitor Center (98 5th St, Calumet) has something for you! Step into historical holiday cheer at the Holiday Open House. You’ll have the opportunity to engage in make-and-take holiday crafts inspired by 150 years of seasonal traditions. Three floors of interactive exhibits for all ages are open for exploration as well. Be sure to catch the Village of Calumet Sesquicentennial Exhibition on the third floor before it’s gone!
