Events and opportunities
January 15
• The Calumet Keweenaw Sportsmen’s Club will hold it’s annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Ahmeek Fire Hall, 13 Vivian Street, Ahmeek, Michigan. As this is our annual meeting, we will be electing officers/directors and determining our priorities for 2026 and beyond. We will begin the evening with a period of social interaction and a meal. Following the meal and general club business, we will conduct our annual election of officers/directors. As always, everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
• Nature by night: Owl Prowl. Join local biologist and educator Tom Oliver for a family-friendly nighttime adventure at Steve Farm Nature Area. With snowshoes snug and ears alert for owl calls, we’ll move slowly and mindfully through the snowy landscape, listening for distant “hoots” and learning about these fascinating nocturnal birds. • Community Jam Session, 7 – 8:30 p.m. Keweenaw Storytelling Center, 215 fifth St. Calumet. Musicians of all abilities and ages are invited to participate in a community jam session. All musical genres are welcome. Come ready to play your own original music or a selection to play, or just play along with fellow musicians. Musicians sit in a circle and take turns performing while fellow musicians are invited to play along. This event is free, but donations are appreciated.
January 17
• Kelli van Ginhoven (D), candidate for MI Senate District 38, will hold a major campaign fundraiser for Houghton Co. from 2 – 4 p.m. Join Kelli and her team at 5th and Elm at the Orpheum Theater in Hancock.
January 18
• The next Let’s Eat Community Meal will be at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock.These meals welcome guests of all ages and they are free of charge. The cost of all of these monthly meals are always covered through contributions of local businesses, organizations and congregations. All meals are served between 4 and 5:30 p.m.
