Events and opportunities
March 6
• Soup Supper, 6 p.m. Mission United Church, Pelkie. Mission United Church invites the public to a free chili soup supper on Friday at 6 p.m. Breads, desserts and beverages will also be served.
• Gospel Concert Fundraiser, 7 p.m. L’Anse Methodist Church. The concert will benefit the Baraga County Cancer Support Group. Music styles include county, gospel and bluegrass. Featured artists include Laura Augustine, Bill Kautto, Courtney and Adam Lundgren, Todd Overbeek, Mike Roberts and Mike Urbis. There is no admission, but freewill donations are gratefully accepted.
March 7
• Quincy Shaft Snowshoe Hike, noon, Quincy Mine and Shaft. Snowshoe across the Quincy Mine landscape. A trail that takes guests around and through some of the mine’s most prominent structures and ruins will be available for walking at any time throughout the day. An extended, guided hike is available free of charge at noon. Expect to learn more about the mine’s history and the structures that are visited. Guests should plan to bring their own snowshoes, dress for the weather, and expect a 1.5-2 mile hike.
• Hancock Cool Season Tori, 9. a.m. – noon, HOCO, 1500 Birch St. Hancock. The Hancock Winter Tori is held at the HOCO, with fresh produce, baked goods, and handmade gifts with local flavor.
March 8
• Pancake Breakfast, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. South Range Elementary School. Sponsored by the Adams Township Fire and First Responders, the annual fundraiser features pancake and French toast breakfast and bake sale. Adults — $10, Kids 6-12 –$5, 5 & under — free. Tickets at the door, take outs available.
• “Let’s Eat” Community Meal – Baraga. 4 – 5:30 p.m. Saint Ann’s Church, Baraga. The next” Let’s Eat” community meal program offers a free dinner at St. Ann’s Church in Baraga. All are welcome.
March 9
• Blood Drive noon – 3 p.m. Houghton High School’s National Honor Society will host a blood drive in between the high school and middle school gyms. Those interested in donating should enter through Door 1, or the big glass entrance, located at the front of the school building. Snacks and beverages will be provided for those donating!
March 11
• Free Soup Supper 3 – 6 p.m. Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 47281 Adventure St, Atlantic Mine. Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic Mine offers a free supper on the second Wednesday of each month. All are invited to enjoy soup, bread, and a piece of fruit. A vegan option is available.
• Copper Country Recycling Initiative monthly meeting, 6:30 p.m. Portage Lake District Library. The Copper Country Recycling Initiative invites you to their monthly meeting at the Portage Lake District Library. • Copper Country Junior Hockey Association Board Meeting, 6:30 p.m. HOCO, 1500 Birch St, Hancock. Anyone interested in supporting youth hockey is welcome.
