Events and opportunities

April 23

• KBIC Tribal Water Day, 9 a.m. -4:30 p.m., Ojibwa Casino Baraga. Join the KBIC Natural Resources Dept to learn how to care for and protect our water. There will be presentations, information tables, student posters and more. Lunch will be provided and everyone is invited to attend.

April 24

• Blood Drive-Ontonagon. Noon – 4 p.m. Ontonagon Area School. This blood drive is sponsored by the U.P. Regional Blood Center. Located in the Health Science room at the GOISD CTE Building, 701 Parker Ave. Ontonagon. Walk-ins are welcome.

• Neighbor’s Table Community Meal, 5:30 – 7 p.m. Faith Lutheran Church, Calumet. The monthly Neighbor’s Table community meal will be served at Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet between 5:30 and 6:30, with take-outs available between 6:30 and 7 p,m,. All are welcome, at no charge.

May 2

• Spring craft show — GAY Join the Gay VFD Auxiliary Spring Festival Craft Show, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. May 2 at the Gay Community Hall. They have a great line-up of crafters for this show. Due to overwhelming response of the community, they have expanded the show to include vendor tables inside as well as outside along with East Fork Pasty and the Bagel Bus.

Inside there will be a bake sale with cold beverages and coffee.Come join in the fun and pick up a gift for Mother’s Day or any other special occasion. If you have any questions or more information call Sondi at 906-369-5335.

May 3

• Keweenaw Lions Club annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser 11 a.m, – 2 p.m. Dine-in with carryout available, at the Mohawk School. $12 per meal includes spaghetti, garlic bread, cole slaw and baked goods. Limited to 300 tickets, which are available from Keweenaw Lions Club members or by calling Marty & Syd at 289-4306 or Brian at 370-1454. Any extra tickets will be available at the door. If you are unable to attend the dinner but would like to make a donation, please mail checks to Keweenaw Lions Club P.O. Box 298, Mohawk, MI 49950 or you may drop off at Lassila Insurance 34 Union St., Mohawk. No amount is too small. Many Thanks!

• Keweenaw ATV Club’s monthly meeting, 7 – 8 p.m. at the Hubbell VFW Hall, 5218 Duncan Ave. Hubbell

May 9

• 15th Annual Used Book Sale and Pie Social, 9 am – 2 pm. First United Methodist Church, 401 Quincy Street, Hancock, between City Hall and Quincy Green. A wide range of well-organized books suitable for all ages and all interests, including an abundance of biographies and memoirs. You’ll want to arrive early for the best selection. The sale is in a huge space for easy, pleasant browsing. When you’ve finished shopping, enjoy the Pie Social. There will be more than two dozen varieties of homemade pie for sale. Book sale proceeds will go toward the church’s stained glass windows.
