May 16
• Military-Alumni Appreciation. In conjunction with Armed Forces Day, the Houghton High School Alumni Association will host a Military-Alumni Appreciation event on the high school lawn, with a brief patriotic ceremony at 10:30 a.m. conducted by HHSAA President, Mark Smith, Dylan Carlson and JR ROTC. It will include a flag raising, bugle reveille, and a complimentary picnic lunch to first 100 Veterans, served 11:30AM – 12:30 PM in multipurpose room. Non-military tickets are $10 per person, available morning of event. Questions, contact by phone or text (906) 231-0497. All veterans are welcome and open to the public. This is intended as a dine-in service.
• UP Wild Gathering, 4 p.m. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chassell. The UP Wild Gatherings are opportunities to connect with God and each other within our natural world. Each Gathering has a leader who will guide the participants through readings and reflection. The Gatherings are appropriate for all ages, including families and children. Everyone is welcome, no religious affiliation is necessary.
• Family Fun Fair noon – 3 p.m., Calumet Colosseum, Join Copper Shores Outreach & Education and Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds for a day that brings the community together for laughter, connection and support. This free, family-friendly event is open to all and designed to offer something for everyone. Kids can take part in games, activities and plenty of smiles in a lively, welcoming space. People can try their luck with door prizes for all members of the family and enjoy free concessions throughout the event.

• The South Range 4th of July committee will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Sunday, May 17th 2026 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Range Lounge in South Range. Includes spaghetti, coleslaw and dinner roll. Adults (13+) $15, Kids 8-12 $10, 7 and under free. For pre-orders call: 203-856-1926

• Plant Sale. The Houghton Trinity Episcopal Church is hosting the Pewabic Street Community Garden 19th Annual Plant from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 205 E Montezuma Ave. Vegetable starts, Perennials for Sun & Shade, Native plants, Berries, Herbs, Houseplants and more.

• Copper Country Community Mental Health Services’ Board meeting will be held at 5 p.m. at the Northern Lights Clubhouse located at 200 Quincy Street in Hancock.
