July 18

• Swedetown Kids Fishing Tournament, 9:30 a.m. Swedetown Pond. The Calumet-Keweenaw Sportsmen’s Club will host the 21st Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby at Swedetown Pond. Fishing will be open between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. with prizes and lunch to follow. This is a fun and free event designed for children 16 years or younger, however parents, grandparents, older siblings, and significant others are all welcome to participate, assist, and/or observe. Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish in several categories, and for the smallest fish. There will be other prizes, as well as a boys and girls bike. There will be poles available for use if you do not have one, as well as bait.

• Calumet Farmer’s Market, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Agassiz Park, offering fresh produce, baked goods and local crafts.

• Faith Lutheran Church, 150th Anniversary Celebration, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., 26016 Depot St. Calumet. Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a community party. Enjoy live music, food trucks and local vendors, children’s games and family activities, raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle, and presentations highlighting the story of Lutheran ministry in the Keweenaw. All are welcome, at no charge.

• End o’ the Road Keweenaw Tour and Car Show, noon – 5 p.m. Donny Kilpela Memorial Park, Copper Harbor. Tour leaves Calumet school starting at 11 a.m. arrives in Copper Harbor. Live music, Awards in several classes, food and concessions from 1 – 6 p.m. All proceeds benefit Keweenaw Random Acts of Community Kindness.

• Houghton Hockey Reunion, 1 p.m. Dee Stadium. The Houghton Hockey Reunion welcomes former Gremlins hockey players and fans for three games at Dee Stadium. See ad in Friday’s Daily Mining Gazette

July 19

• Bootjack Chicken Barbecue, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Bootjack Fire Hall. Bootjack Fire and Rescue will serve take-out chicken dinners at the fire hall. Tickets must be purchased in advance from any Bootjack first responder, Lindells in Lake Linden, the Dreamland Bar, UP Foods and Jam Services.

• Blessing of the Pets, 1 – 3 p.m. Phoenix Church, US 41 Phoenix. The historic Phoenix Church will hold its annual blessing of the pets. All people and animals are welcome.

• Let’s Eat Community Meal. The next free “Let’s Eat” community meal will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell. All are welcome.

August 8

• White Pine Mine Reunion, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Registration from 12 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., at White Pine American Legion. BBQ, Hot dogs and desserts. Side dishes are always appreciated. Call Jim “Cookie” Cook for more information: 715-551-0887.
