Legion Post 186 Auxiliary to distribute poppies Saturday

HOUGHTON — The Alfred Erickson American Legion Post 186 Auxiliary will be distributing poppies from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Houghton Walmart. All proceeds will be donated to veterans' health care needs. The post thanks the community “as together we honor the fallen and support the living,” organizers said.

Honor Flight Benefit set for Saturday in Lake Linden

LAKE LINDEN — Sons of the American Legion is having an Honor Flight benefit from 3 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Post 90 in Lake Linden. There will be a spaghetti and chicken dinner, adults $13, kids 7 and under $7. There will also be silent auctions and raffles.

‘Ring of Silence’ screening to be held Thursday

HOUGHTON — An open invite is extended to the public to watch a riveting new film about human trafficking titled “Ring of Silence.” The event will take place at Niiwin Akeea Gymnasium on the campus of the Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa College Campus on Thursday, with a reception beginning at 5 p.m.  “Ring of Silence” is based on real events that happened to teens in a Michigan high school. Community meal at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell

HOUGHTON — There will be a community meal organized and hosted by The Knights of Columbus of St. Albert's in Houghton and held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell from 4-5 p.m. on Sunday. Drive-up or grab-and-go options are available. The menu includes spaghetti, salad, dinner roll, dessert and fruit.

Omega House to host third thursday grief support group

HOUGHTON — The Omega House's Third Thursday Community Grief Support Group will be held from 5-6 p.m. Thursday. There will be two ways to participate, in person or from a distance. The group will be meeting in person at Omega House (if you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and masked). Memorial Day schedule of events announced

HOUGHTON – The annual observance of Memorial Day will occur on Monday, May 30 in honor of those who have given their lives for our freedoms. The Rangers VFW Post 6165 members and Auxiliary will conduct services at the following locations at the prescribed time. All members of the VFW and Auxiliary are urged to attend and participate in rendering honors.
