60th annual Trappers Convention set in Escanaba

ESCANABA — The U.P. Trappers have announced the dates for the 60th annual Trappers Convention and Outdoor Expo. This family-friendly event will be held on the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba on July 15-16. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday (all times EDT). This year’s demo lineup includes Jeff Dunlap, Ed Schneider, Bob Steinmetz and Ryan Koivu, Red O’Hearn, Jeff Hagerty, Mark June, Sarah Gomez and Al Dubord. Veterans’ Health Fair set for Saturday in Hancock

HANCOCK — A Veterans' Health Fair will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Alfred Erickson American Legion Post 186 in Hancock. Blood pressure/vital sign screening, blood sugar/weight screening, Med Minder set up, primary care recommendations, nursing education and assistance with VA paperwork will be offered. Volunteer nurses will provide the screening. Houghton County Veterans' Service Officer and a Social Worker from Portage Home Health and Hospice will be available. CALUMET — The Calumet Keweenaw Sportsmen's Club will be holding its May membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at the Ahmeek Fire Hall, 15 Vivian Street, Ahmeek. The group will be serving a pasta dinner. Following the meal, a local conservation officer will be a guest speaker. Memorial for Sewell to be held at Tech on Saturday

HANCOCK — A memorial of Dr. William (Bill) Sewell’s life is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday.
