Wheeler resigns from H-PT board

Wheeler

HOUGHTON — For the second time in two months, Houghton-Portage Township Schools is looking for a new board member.

Trustee Bob Wheeler submitted his resignation effective Monday. He had been on the board since 2007.

“I have been very impressed with the professionalism and dedication of the Administration, the teachers, the staff and the Board of Education of HPTS,” he wrote. “Best wishes for continuing success of educating the young people of our community.”

Superintendent Doreen Kramer said Wheeler had told her months ago he planned to resign after retiring from his job with the Department of Natural Resources. However, after former Trustee Dan Crane’s resignation in June, Wheeler agreed to stay on until Crane’s replacement, Rob Fay, joined the board.

The board will follow the same procedure as with Crane’s vacancy.

The day after the application deadline, the personnel policy committee will meet to review the applications.

Klingbeil said the board will look to appoint a replacement at its September meeting.

Applicants may submit a letter of interest to Superintendent Doreen Kramer, Houghton-Portage Township Schools, 1603 Gundlach Road, Houghton, MI, 49931.

Applicants must be at least 18, a U.S. citizen, a Michigan resident for at least 30 days and a resident of the school district for at least 30 days before their appointment.
