American Legion hosts spaghetti dinner
HANCOCK — The Alfred Erickson Post 186 American Legion has scheduled its semi-annual spaghetti dinner for Sunday, Sept. 29, from 2-7 p.m.
“That serves, for the most part, keeping us open in the winter months and in the summer months,” said Post Commander Rod Gilbault.
The menu offers, of course, spaghetti, along with bread or a dinner role, salad, and coffee. The tickets are $9 for adults, and $4 for children. The Ladies’ Auxiliary will also have a bake sale, offering home-baked desserts and sweets.
“The proceeds of the dinner go to the day-to-day operations of the post,” said Gilbault, “and in the winter time, keeping the place open, because we don’t have any other fundraisers until March. The money goes to pay the bills. That’s all we have to operate with.” Post members are also scheduled to solicit ticket sales by going door-to-door.
Gilbault said that the Erickson Post is among the first to form in Michigan, dating back to 1919, but he is not sure. Lake Linden Post 90 might be older, he said.
Tickets for the fundraiser dinner are on sale now, and can be purchased from any member, or by calling the post at (906)482-3570.
