LL-H moves 6th grade to middle school
LAKE LINDEN — This fall’s sixth-graders at Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools will not just be moving up a grade level.
The district board Monday approved moving the sixth grade from the elementary school to the middle-high school.
This transition period was already underway this year, Superintendent Brad Codere said. They split their time between the two buildings, and had gym each day instead of recess.
“We have the room,” he said.
Sixth-grade students have also played with middle-school teams for several years, Codere said.
The move will also help with scheduling constraints for staff, Codere said. Instead of having to create a hour window for sixth-grade band at the elementary school, they can be merged with middle-school band.
“It allows us to put some things together and do some shuffling with staffing assignments a little differently than we have in the past,” he said.
A letter will be sent to parents explaining the transition schedule, Codere said.
The change puts Lake Linden in line with most other districts, said Elementary Coordinator Jack Johnson.
“It seems like sixth grade, especially as the year gets going, they’re ready for that,” he said.
