Motorcycle crash sends rider to the E.R.

HOUGHTON — A July 28 personal injury Accident (PIA) occurred on Shelden Avenue that sent a motorcyclist to the hospital.

At approximately 1:23 p.m. Tuesday, officers from the Houghton Police Department responded to a car/motorcycle on the U.S.41/M-26 exchange, just off the south end of the Portage Lake Bridge.

According to the police, a 71-year old male from Houghton was traveling south in the center lane of the Yooper Loop, when the car he was driving was struck by a motorcycle, driven by a 59-year-old female from Wheeler, Michigan, which was also traveling south in the far-left lane. The female crossed into the center lane, striking the Houghton man’s vehicle.

The rider of the motorcycle was transported by Mercy Ambulance to the U.P. Health Systems-Portage Hospital. Her condition is not known at this time. Alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash.

Assisting at the scene were the Hancock Police Department, Michigan Tech Public Safety and Police Services, and Mercy Ambulance.
