TORCH LAKE TOWNSHIP — Two men needed to be rescued from Torch Bay, between Torch Lake and Portage Lake, over the weekend, after one of them fell into the water from a boat, and other jumped in to save him.

At approximately 7:40 p.m. Sunday, deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to East Grosse Point Shores, across the bay from the Dreamland Restaurant. Deputies responded to the dispatch via patrol car and the Sheriff’s Office patrol boat, according to a release from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.

Prior to arriving on the scene, however, members of the Bootjack Fire Department/First Responders were able to assist the boaters to shore.

A 20-year-old male was near the back of the boat and fallen out, states the release. Another male, 22-years old, jumped in to help his passenger, and the boat drifted away from them.
