Houghton County absentee ballot arrival delayed

HOUGHTON — The arrival of Houghton County’s absentee ballots have been delayed until Tuesday or Wednesday next week, Houghton County Clerk Jennifer Kelly announced Wednesday.

The clerks in every city and township will get the ballots out as soon as possible to those who have requested them, Kelly said.

With most township offices still closed to the public, people wanting to vote in person should contact their township clerk to make an appointment or arrangements to obtain an absentee ballot.

Houghton and Hancock’s offices are open to the public.

There are now drop boxes for voters to hand-deliver their ballots to their city or township clerk.

Jurisdictions having them are Adams Township, Chassell Township, Hancock, Houghton, Franklin Township, Osceola Township, Portage Township, Stanton Township, Torch Lake Township and Spurr Township (Baraga County). An updated list of sites is being kept at lwvccmi.org.

Any voters in Duncan Township are asked to contact their clerk to make arrangements for hand delivering their ballot directly to the clerk.
