Downstate man dies from injuries suffered by crossbow

ARVON TOWNSHIP — The Baraga County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Baraga County Memorial Hospital at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct 6 to investigate 61-year-old Ross Leo Fruin from Battle Creek, who was shot with a crossbow.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, Randy Orin Cole, age 65, from Dowling, Michigan, was issued a citation for careless, reckless, negligent, use of a bow and arrow causing injury or death, after Fruin was admitted to the Baraga County hospital, and subsequently transferred to UP Health Systems Marquette, where he died of his injuries. The incident occurred in Arvon Township. Neither the sheriff nor the undersheriff were available for comment or further details as of Tues. afternoon. The Daily Mining Gazette will provide further details as they become available. The release states the incident is still under investigation.
