Hancock Schools Foundation approves grants
HANCOCK — The Hancock Public Schools Foundation approved nearly $50,000 in grant requests at their recent quarterly meeting. The grants supported the Junior Library Guild program, third grade library books, Read Naturally Live reading fluency program, headphones for elementary students, supporting a trip to France for high school students (with additional funding from an alumnus and the students), exercise equipment for the high school, audio equipment and video scoreboards for the high school, and playground equipment for the elementary school.
The board also agreed to increase scholarships to $40,000 total for the next school year and target trade schools in addition to colleges.
“It’s always a pleasure to support worthy programs in the Hancock school district,” said Grants Committee member Robbyn Lucier. “We are routinely impressed with the high-quality of proposals from faculty and administrators. Thanks to the supporters of the Foundation and their generous donations, we are able to grant a substantial amount of money annually to our schools to enhance the district for our students.”
In the past school year, the foundation funded more than $100,000 in grants, including laptops for elementary teachers, industrial education tools, robotics and Lego robotics, elementary reading and science programs, the Civil Air Patrol Cadet program, and the library community room.
The Hancock Public Schools Foundation was established in 1987 and is dedicated to supporting all schools in the district.
