PORTAGE TOWNSHIP — Two people were confirmed to have died as the result of a Friday structure fire in Portage Township.

The Michigan State Police announced the two people’s identities are being withheld until positive identification from autopsies later this week.

Troopers were dispatched to the fire at a residence about 9:16 p.m. on Valley Road Friday night. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Other agencies responding to the fire were the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Otter Lake Fire Department, Mercy EMS, Stanton Twp. Fire Department, HurontownFire Department, and Chassell Fire Department.
