Two-vehicle crash in Hancock

Garrett Neese/Daily Mining Gazette

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 41 an eighth of a mile south of Pontiac Road in Franklin Township at 2:43 p.m. Tuesday. A 2015 GMC truck driven by a 21-year-old woman was traveling southbound on U.S. 41 when she lost control of the truck on the snow- and slush-covered road and crossed the center line, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. She struck a northbound van driven by a 32-year-old Hancock man. The woman and her passenger were treated at the scene by Mercy EMS, which then transported them to UP Health System — Portage for minor injuries. The driver of the van declined medical treatment at the scene but was advised to seek further medical advice. The female driver was cited violating the basic speed law by driving too fast for conditions. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and had to be towed from the scene.

The Sheriff Department was assisted by Hancock Police, Mercy EMS, Quincy-Franklin-Hancock Township Fire Department and Dave’s BP Towing of Hancock.
