COVID-19 update: Week of March 6
COVID-19 activity rose moderately in Houghton and Baraga counties in the past week, according to state data.
Houghton County had 44 new confirmed positives since Feb. 28, four more than a week ago, while Baraga County had seven new cases, up six for the week, according to figures posted Tuesday on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website. Keweenaw County had three cases, down eight from the previous week.
The MDHHS website Tuesday added 302 confirmed COVID-19 positives since Feb. 28, up 84 from the previous week, to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 123 in Marquette County, 44 in Houghton County, 41 in Chippewa County, 23 in Dickinson County, 19 in Menominee County, 17 in Delta County, 11 in Iron County, seven in Baraga County, six in Gogebic County, three in Keweenaw and Alger counties, two in Ontonagon and Luce counties and one in Mackinac County.
The U.P. had only one confirmed virus-related death for the week, in Delta County.
Based on the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 64,111 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 988 confirmed deaths since pandemic tracking began in March 2020.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 599 confirmed cases and 65 probable, and 15 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 786 confirmed cases and 890 probable, 17 confirmed deaths and five probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,201 confirmed, 143 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,290 confirmed, 835 probable and nine deaths, 10 probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,409 confirmed cases and 825 probable, 14 deaths and five probable;
Mackinac County, 1,946 confirmed cases and 1,051 probable, 34 deaths and six probable; Baraga County, 2,155 confirmed cases, 458 probable and 60 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 3,186 confirmed cases and 428 probable, 84 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,604 confirmed cases and 702 probable, 44 deaths and 34 probable; Chippewa County, 4,239 confirmed cases and 6,044 probable, and 99 deaths, 21 probable; Menominee County, 4,951 confirmed cases, 2,232 probable and 69 deaths, 16 probable; Dickinson County, 6,280 confirmed cases and 3,110 probable, 106 deaths and 25 probable; Houghton County, 8,335 confirmed cases, 1,252 probable, 96 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 9,140 confirmed cases and 3,332 probable, 152 deaths and 39 probable; and Marquette County, 14,990 confirmed cases, 4,386 probable and 147 deaths, 23 probable.
The MDHHS on Tuesday added 6,903 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since Feb. 28, down 580 for the week, or an average of about 986 cases per day for the seven-day period, for a total of 3,064,125 cases since COVID tracking began. The state since Feb. 28 recorded 109 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus, down 30, to reach 42,205.
