IRONWOOD — The Gogebic Community College (GCC) Criminal Justice Program, in partnership with the Michigan State Police (MSP) Wakefield Post, announces the 2025 Law Enforcement Career Academy, an immersive experience for individuals age 16 and older interested in exploring a career in law enforcement.

This week-long academy, scheduled for June 9-13, at GCC’s Ironwood campus, offers participants the opportunity to train alongside Michigan State Police troopers and officers from local law enforcement agencies. Participants will gain valuable insight into the law enforcement field through hands-on experiences in a safe and controlled environment.

Activities will include:

• Patrol techniques and traffic stops

• First-aid and CPR certification

• Crime scene investigation

• Defensive tactics training

• Live, realistic scenarios

• Moderate physical fitness exercises

“The academy is a fantastic way for young people to see firsthand what a career in law enforcement is really like,” said Rebecca Bramlett, Criminal Justice Instructor at GCC. “It’s about mentorship, hands-on learning, and helping participants find out if this path is right for them.”

Tuition is free, and Gogebic Community College will provide on-campus housing at no cost to all academy participants. Space is limited and the deadline to apply is May 2, 2025. Whether you’re considering a future as a state trooper, sheriff’s deputy, or municipal police officer, this academy is a great way to take the first step. Contact Trooper Joe Renaud at renaudj@michigan.gov or Rebecca Bramlett at rebeccab@gogebic.edu to apply or to get more information.

Starting at $3.50/week.
