CALUMET — The public will have to check all there is to see and enjoy all that has been accomplished by the students of the Schools of Calumet, Laurium and Keweenaw at the the third annual CLK Spring Showcase.

The wide-ranging event takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday May 14 at CLK Elementary School, Washington Middle School, Calumet High School, Horizons Alternative High School and on CLK Virtual.

The entire community is invited to check out the campus facilities and share in the projects, demonstrations and learning portfolios both students and staff have been working on throughout the academic year.

The K-12 Student Art Show features creations in a variety of media. Many of these young artists and their pieces were featured in the Youth Arts Month exhibition in the Copper Country Community Art Center and in the pages of the Daily Mining Gazette during the month of Month.

Impressive works in wood, metal and more are featured in the CHS Industrial Arts Projects show and the impressive work of Washington Middle School students will be on display in the WMS Maker Spaces. Michael Goldsworthy middle school STEM teacher, said the Flex labs and makerspace gives students countless opportunities to explore different avenues and interests. “Our makerspace has top of the line equipment including laser engravers, 3D printers, soldering, foam cutting and countless hand tools. Flex lab includes T-shirt making, banner printing, sewing, hydroponics, bike building and so much more. The education and hands on experience our students receive stand above the rest.”

Troy Reuter, WMS principal said the showcase is a great opportunity for the public to see what great things are happening at CLK. “At Washington Middle School we are always looking for ways to enhance the learning opportunities for our students,” Reuter said.He said the Showcase gives the public a chance to see firsthand the educational experience students get at WMS. “We would not be in the position we are in today without the amazing support and contributions of our local community and businesses. We are very proud of the education we can offer our local students and we look forward to celebrating all of our student’s skills and accomplishments with our community on May 14.

Many of CLK’s graduating seniors will be on hand to explain and share their Senior Culminating projects and on the younger side of campus, Elementary Learning Portfolios will be available to view.

Don’t get the idea that the evening will be nothing but static displays. Not at all! Part of the evening features the Horizons Music Fest, including a silent auction, food, ice cream and much more. There will be live art demonstrations throughout the facilities.

The evening will feature tours of the sprawling and quite impressive campus facilities with students, faculty, administrators and staff on hand to answer questions and lead tours.

Many student clubs and organizations, including the CopperBots robotics team, will have displays, many giving visitors “hands on” experiences.
