Rain or shine, Big 150 is on

CALUMET – The Calumet Township sesquicentennial celebration organizers had planned to have some of event take place on Fifth Street, but that has changed, according to Debbie Aubin.

Aubin, who is a member of the Big 150 Committee, said when committee members learned earlier this week there was a chance of rain during the two days of events, they were, obviously, concerned.

“We were agonizing about it,” she said.

Because there is strong chance of rain all weekend, the entire event has been moved to Agassiz Park, Aubin said. Vendors will no longer be on Fifth Street as planned.

Members were considering moving some of the events to the second floor of the Calumet Colosseum if the weather was bad, Aubin said. However, tents have been rented for vendors and musicians.

“Most of the vendors will have tents,” she said.

There will be a tent for the musicians, who will play beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday in Agassiz Park.

If the weather is good, Aubin said there will be fireworks at dusk on Friday.

The parade will still take place beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday in Laurium.

Aubin said committee members are urging people to attend the Big 150 events, even if there is rain.

“Hopefully, people will come out,” she said. “Bring an umbrella just in case.”
