Tech gets threat on first day of classes
HOUGHTON – Officials are investigating a threat sent Monday to a Michigan Technological University faculty member.
The email threat was sent from outside the country at 1:45 p.m., said Lt. Donna Beels of MTU Public Safety. The threat was made based on the faculty member’s prior affiliation to an institution unrelated to MTU, Beels said.
The university has since sent two emails university-wide, Beels said – one advising people of the threat, and a subsequent update.
Local, state and federal officials are still investigating the matter, Beels said.
Beels referred further questions to university communications director Ian Repp. Repp did not return a message seeking comment on Wednesday morning.
