Public hearing scheduled for Houghton parcel rezone

HOUGHTON – The Houghton City Council approved a public hearing on an ordinance that would rezone part of a proposed subdivision on Red Oak Lane from business to residential during a special meeting Wednesday.

The ordinance would rezone the south portion of the proposed Oak Grove Hill Condomininium Association from a business zone to residential. The rest of the proposed subdivision is already zoned residential.

City Manager Eric Waara said the business zoning likely dates back to when the land was owned by The Bluffs Senior Community.

“If we wait three weeks to get together on the 14th of September, we’re going to be pushing this out further, and the more things we can get done sooner, the better,” he said.

Moyle Real Estate and Development is building the subdivision. The planning commission gave conditional approval to the subdivision dependent upon the rezoning.

The public hearing will take place at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 28.
