All measures passed throughout the Copper Country

HOUGHTON — Voters approved Houghton County’s road millage renewal and other measures throughout the Copper Country in Tuesday’s election. Results are unofficial, pending today’s approval from the Board of Canvassers.

Houghton County

County voters overwhelmingly approved a renewal of the operating and maintenance millage for the Houghton County Road Commission. The 1.369-mill, 10-year millage passed 3,211-532, garnering more than 85% of the vote.

Calumet Township

The renewal of the township’s 1.5-mill, eight-year building and maintenance millage passed 222-85.

Chassell Township

The township’s five-year, 0.5-mill recreational millage passed 158-126.

Chassell Township schools

The district’s 20-mill, 10-year operating millage passed 157-128.

Duncan Township

All four millages on the ballot passed easily. A five-year, 0.9432-mill renewal for the operation of Sonco and Bay ambulance companies received the most support at 35-3. The five-year, 0.8943-mill renewal of its operating millage was approved 33-5. A five-year, 1.7889-mill renewal for fire protection and five-year, 0.4715-mill renewal of the fire truck millage both passed 31-7.

Franklin Township

Precinct 1 voters backed a four-year, 1-mill millage for the Quincy-Franklin Fire Department Fund 63-21. Precinct 2 voters renewed a four-year, 1-mill millage for the Ripley Fire Department Fund by a 39-9 vote. In township-wide votes, a .25-mill, four-year millage for fire apparatus passed 96-36, while a four-year, 2-mill road millage passed 86-46.

Laurium

The village’s 12.5-mill, 10-year operating millage passed 145-105.

Stanton Township

The village’s five-year, 2-mill road millage renewal passed 173-49.

Torch Lake Township

The township’s five-year, 0.9715-mill renewal of its road improvement millage passed 272-44.

Baraga County

Spurr Township

Township residents voted 29-16 in favor of the NICE Community School District’s 10-year, 18.4146-mill operating millage renewal. They voted 19-27 against the Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency’s request for a 1.5-mill increase over 20 years for its special education millage. Both millages were approved.

Ontonagon County

Bohemia Township

Bohemia Township’s renewal of a six-year, 1-mill operating millage passed 19-8.

Stannard Township

Both millages on the ballot passed. Voters approved a new 1-mill, five-year millage for cemetery and park upkeep and maintenance 92-26. They also voted 102-16 in favor of a 1-mill, five-year millage to be used for operating and maintenance expenses for the Stannard Township Fire Department.
