TAPIOLA — The tiny community of Tapiola swelled to several times its size yesterday as hundreds turned out for the annual Independence Day Parade. Led by Grand Marshall Harold Filpus, astride a 1948. Farmall antique tractor, took the parade through down town right to the ball field that bears his name.
Although the lacking a marching band, the parade more then made up for it with, antique autos, motorcycles, ROTC marchers, queens, fire fighters, farm animals and even Smokey Bear.
Similar parades were held throughout the day in communities throughout Houghton and Baraga Counties.
