Delta County traffic fatality

GLADSTONE — A Munising man died as the result of a two vehicle accident Monday afternoon in eastern Delta County. According to a press release from the Michigan State Police (MSP), the mishap occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Monday in Delta County’s Masonville Township, near Rapid River.

Troopers from the MSP Gladstone Post responded to a report of the accident. The preliminary investigation revealed that a commercial delivery truck had stopped at the intersection of 24th Road and Co 511 W.5 Road and then attempted to proceed through the intersection to continue eastbound on 24th Road. As the delivery truck entered the intersection, a crash occurred with a pickup truck which had been traveling southbound on Co 511 W.5 Road.

The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 51-year-old man from Munising, sustained fatal injuries from the crash. The driver of the delivery vehicle, a 29-year-old man from Seney, sustained minor injuries and was treated at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. There were no other passengers in either vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.
