ESCANABA — No injuries were reported in a house fire early Wednesday that caused heavy damage to a home on Escanaba’s south side. Dispatched at about 3:55 a.m., Escanaba Department of Public Safety found fire had engulfed the back of the house, according to a news release from Escanaba Public Safety.
The blaze caused extensive damage to the back of the home, but officers “quickly deployed attack lines to prevent the fire from spreading to the front of the house,” according to the release. Responders were on site for approximately 2 1/2 hours.
No one was currently living in the house, which was being remodeled, Public Safety Captain Austin Young said. In addition to Escanaba Public Safety and Delta County Central Dispatch, Delta County Sheriff’s Department and Rampart EMS assisted during the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
