Courtesy photo Traffic slowed to a trickle and was diverted carefully by law enforcement around an indisposed semi on the north edge of Escanaba around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday after the truck went into the ditch on the south side of the Senator Tom Casperson Bridge.

ESCANABA — Following a snowy morning, a semi-trailer truck went off the road near the border of Wells Township and the City of Escanaba on Thursday.

Around or before 11:30 a.m., while traveling southbound on U.S. 2 and 41, just after passing under the Canadian National railroad bridge near the Tom Casperson Memorial Bridge which crosses the Escanaba River, the semi lost control in the slush and slid to the right, its cab taking out a sign on the side of the road and the trailer stretching from the ditch across the lanes of traffic — but still right-side-up.

Damage appeared to be minimal, but assistance was required to move the semi. Law enforcement directed highway traffic, which had slowed to a crawl, around the incapacitated vehicle and trailer.

Circumstances around the cause of the incident and the extent of damage were unconfirmed at press time.

Shortly after noon, the scene was clear.
