MARQUETTE — The greater Marquette community remains stunned in the several days since the body of Trenton Massey was located submerged in the water of the Lower Harbor, north of the Shiras Dock.
According to the Marquette Police Department’s Capt. Chris Aldrich, Massey’s body was found at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, in the water of the Lower Harbor, north of the Shiras Dock. His body was discovered by volunteers from Hybrid Robotics, an underwater ROV manufacturing company located in Traverse City.
Following the discovery, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office divers recovered the body which was turned over to UPHS EMS before being transported to UPHS-Marquette, pending an autopsy, an MPD press release notes. The investigation into the matter continues.
Massey went missing on Feb. 22, sparking a massive search on land, ice, from the air and underwater, using such resources as scuba divers, sonar, aerial drones, underwater remote-operated vehicles, K-9s, hovercraft, airboat and helicopter.
The area of the search, which was ongoing for several weeks, encompassed the Founder’s Landing, downtown Marquette, ice and water of the lower harbor, the city multi-use path, Mattson Lower Harbor Park and neighborhoods west of Front Street, according to the news release.
Marquette police said Massey’s cell phone was found on the city multi-use path between UP Health System-Marquette and the McDonald’s restaurant on West Washington Street. In addition, Massey was observed on several video cameras situated in and along that area.
The press release noted that over the past two months, multiple agencies and volunteers assisted with the search from land, air, ice and water.
