On Aug. 8, Chassell Township hosted its first scrap tire collection event.

Funded through a State of Michigan Environment, Great Lakes and Energy Scrap Tire Grant, Chassell partnered with the Superior Watershed Partnership and Land Conservancy from Marquette to provide this opportunity for Chassell residents.

SWP provided three volunteers and Chassell Township provided eight. In all, they were able to collect 350 tires.

Lynn Gierke, Chassell Township clerk, stated, “We are very happy that we had a successful event and look forward to having another in the future if the grant funding is available.”
