Michigan Tech to host blood drive in September

HOUGHTON — Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. They don’t wear capes or special suits, and their badge of honor is the bandage that shows they gave the gift of life. The community is invited to become a hometown hero and answer the call of patients in need by donating blood on Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Memorial Union, 1400 Townsend Drive, Houghton, Michigan 49931. The Rotary Club of Houghton is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2025 featured Brewfest Beneficiary through Sept. 30. Recently, we proudly presented Copper Shores Meals on Wheels, the primary beneficiary of Keweenaw Brewfest 2024, a check of $22,900 for the Produce Washing Station Project. This station will allow this important food program to grow and expand and significantly improve operations by being able to wash quickly and safely, process, and store fresh produce from our local farmers and growers in a timely manner. Press release All families are welcome to an awesome experience at Porvoo Park in Hancock. Food is provided for all at no cost. Programming includes music, stories, crafts and games, including the opportunity to throw a fishing line in the Portage Canal (with adult supervision). The Rotary Club of Houghton selected Copper Shores Meals on Wheels as a featured beneficiary of the 2024 Keweenaw Brewfest fundraising, supporting the Produce Washing Station Project. This project includes purchasing equipment and renovating workspace to provide a permanent, sustainable food washing area for Meals on Wheels and will have a huge impact on food quality for 350+ seniors every day.
