HEET lecture to be held Thursday

HOUGHTON – Yvonne Lewis, energy auditor and contractor with Efficiency UNITED, will present “Energy efficiency in your home – what can you do?” from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday. The lecture will take place in room G002 Hesterberg Hall in the Forestry Building on Tech’s campus. The lecture is part of the 2015 Green Lecture Series.

The lecture is free and coffee, tea and refreshments will be served, according to a release for the event.

Topics covered will include the following:

low to no-cost ways to reduce home energy use

how to define your thermal boundary

how furnace filters affect heating comfort and cost

how “phantom” items are using power even when not in use

how air infiltration into your home quickly removes heat,

hands-on demonstrations for DIY caulking, faucet aerators, filter sizing and changing, dry venting, and fireplace chimney work

Participants can take home a checklist to evaluate their own home, and sign up for a free energy assessment.
