Arrest for false report of robbery

HOUGHTON – The bartender who reported an armed robbery of the South Range Veterans of Foreign Wars post in December was arraigned for making a false report.

An arrest warrant has also been issued for the person who allegedly took the money.

Sasha Anderson, 36, of South Range, reported in December that a man confronted her and took a large amount of money as she was closing up the lounge for the night.

Sheriff’s deputies are seeking the suspect, Clinton John Jarriel, 36, formerly of South Range, on a charge of larceny of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000.

“We wanted to get the word out that no, it wasn’t an armed robbery. There was something else going on,” said Houghton County Sheriff Brian McLean. “We’re looking to wrap the case up once we apprehend him.”

There is a relationship between the two suspects, McLean said, although he declined to elaborate.
