CALUMET What happens when you combine a lifelong artist and an enthusiastic youth group? You get a wonderful partnership between the Calumet Art Center and the Trap Rock 4-H Club! The Trap Rock 4-H Club has youth from five area schools, including those being home schooled. Thanks to a grant through the Keweenaw Community Foundation from the Herman Gundlach Endowment Fund the Trap Rock 4-H group will be meeting regularly at the Calumet Art Center throughout the school year.

Youth from the Trap Rock 4-H Club Youth Program met with Executive Director Ed Gray of the center to plan and develop the youth art program. Not only does this help them with developing leadership and planning skills, it also creates a program that meets the needs and interests of the club.

The sessions will integrate history, science, math and culture of our area into the teachings. The Trap Rock 4-H club will be working with clay, fiber, copper, paper making, found objects and much more.

Plans are being made to have the youth projects on display in the spring, and youth can also choose to enter their completed projects into the Houghton County Fair.
