L’Anse swears in council members
L’ANSE – L’Anse Village Manager Bob LaFave swore in council members, who backed buying energy efficient lighting for several village facilities Monday.
Several council members swore an oath to LaFave, before shaking hands with him and getting down to work.
They were President Ronald Ervast, who will serve another two-year term, and three trustees, who will serve four-year terms: Kerri Kissel-Sikkila, Chris Miller and Jason VanStraten.
Recent appointee Kristina Waara also took the pledge to finish the remaining two years of John VanDusen’s term.
The council authorized spending about $10,000, which along with grant and incentives of about the same amount, will fund LED lighting throughout the water plant and pump house, as well as the wastewater treatment plant, where solar power pods will be installed by early December.
“That should have some real potential savings over the years,” LaFave said, noting the lighting changes will pay for themselves in a couple years.
In addition, the council appointed Wayne Karvonen as an alternate electrical inspector since the current inspector has been sick. Also the alternate inspector for Baraga Township, Karvonen is fully licensed for the job.
