HOUGHTON — Houghton and Michigan Technological University police are investigating a report of a sexual assault occurring Saturday morning on College Avenue.

The incident occurred about 2 a.m. in a vehicle in a parking lot on College Avenue, according to an email sent to Michigan Technological University personnel.

Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly said the alleged assailant and victim knew each other.

“There’s not a suspect at large,” he said. “Everybody’s been identified by the police. it’s under investigation.”

Donnelly did not provide ages, but said the male assailant and female victim are both college-age. One or both are Michigan Tech students, he said.

Donnelly said the department is routinely investigating several non-stranger sexual assault complaints.
