Houghton County Fair Board votes to postpone fair until 2021

Junior Market Livestock Show and Sale moving forward

The Houghton County Fair Board voted to postpone the traditional 2020 Houghton County Fair, August 27 through 30. The 2021 Fair dates will be August 26 through 29, 2021.

During the COVID-19 crisis, the fair board has continued to plan ahead. As of last week, the board learned new information that necessitates a decision about how to move forward. The board appreciates all of the support and encouragement for the past several months.

Currently the State of Michigan’s crowd size restrictions will vastly limit the fair board’s ability to provide the entertainment that the public has come to expect. Skerbeck Entertainment Group, the fair’s carnival and midway, was also notified by LARA- Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the state’s licensing agency, that amusement devices, other than ziplines, are not permitted to operate at this time.

The Board is still planning to move forward with the Junior Market Livestock Show and Sale. Details will be forthcoming. The outstanding entertainment we contracted with will be rolled over to the 2021 Fair.

We understand that this is not the outcome that we all wanted, but our goal is now to provide the best experience for the youth that have invested in livestock projects, some since last fall, and be recognized for the time and effort put into their projects. Please be patient with us as we are all trying to make the very best out of a difficult situation.
