Every Vote Counts — vigil for democracy in Houghton County

HOUGHTON — We Make Michigan – Keweenaw Chapter invites you to join us for a peaceful, short, nonpartisan, and socially distanced Every Vote Counts Vigil for Democracy on Sunday, November 1 from 5:15 pm – 6 p.m. in downtown Houghton.

Worried about a contested election? Come out to send the message that no matter how you vote or for whom, your vote counts in this election.

Meet at the Grace Methodist Church parking lot (201 Isle Royale St.) in downtown Houghton at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. Together, we will walk west along Montezuma Ave. one block toward Dodge St., turn north and walk one block up Dodge St., concluding at the Houghton County Courthouse at 401 E. Houghton Ave. Those who wish to join us directly at the Courthouse may find us there at 5:40 pm where there will be a brief program.

Bring flashlights, head lamps, LED candle, or electric tea lights for the walk and vigil. We encourage you to wear bright reflective clothing or reflective tape. Nonpartisan signs related to the message of the event are encouraged; please, no signs specific to candidates or parties.

Mask wearing and social distancing of six feet between households will be strictly required. We encourage those who consider themselves at high risk of COVID or who live with high-risk individuals to stay home.
